NetBeans IDE and Platform Localization

You localize NetBeans IDE and NetBeans Platform by localizing Bundle.properties and other files.

How to localize NetBeans IDE

NetBeans is a Java application, so you localize NetBeans IDE and NetBeans Platform in the common Java way - by localizing Bundle.properties, *.html, and other files.

Here are the basic steps how to localize the IDE. Please read the detailed description on the NetBeans IDE 7.0 Localization Project Page.

Pick up the L10n-kit containing English Bundle.properties files.
Download the L10n-kit, a zip file that contains English Bundle.properties and other localizable files.

You'll find a detailed description on the Translation Overview for NetBeans IDE 7.0 page.

Localize the files.
Localize all the files and rename them. For example you rename all Bundle.properties files to Bundle_<lang>.properties. There are 4 types of file formats that we need to localize:

  • .properties
  • .xml
  • .url
  • .xml
You'll find a detailed description on the How to translate the NetBeans IDE page.

Put your translated files into the translatedfiles/src CVS repository
We welcome your contributions!

Build localized JAR files
Run the Ant script
You'll find a detailed description on the How to build Netbeans 7.0 IDE in your own language on NetBeans page.

Test your work by putting the localized JAR files into NetBeans

Run the IDE or the Platform in your language and test it.

The NetBeans Platform is localized as part of the NetBeans IDE localization. If you need solely the NetBeans Platform, translate only the minimum files for your Rich Client Application. Please check the NetBeans Platform Localization page.

You can also localize only a part of the Bundle.properties files. Please check the NetBeans Platform Localization and NetBeans IDE 7.0 Localization Project Page.
