How to Perform Localization Testing

This testing consists of downloading and installing the latest daily build (Multilingual contains Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and English), then choosing a configuration (OS, browser, Java SE, App/Web Server, or Database, depending on the test case). Perform either the standard or advanced testing detailed below. Add your name to the NB wiki test assignment matrix so others will cover more configuration options. Upon completion of the test, enter the PASS/FAIL into the assignment matrix and any bug IDs. To receive points, send an email as specified below.

Although the primary new feature for NB 5.5 is JavaEE 5, none of the NetBeans IDE product has ever been tested in Brazilian Portuguese. Therefore, we will focus on much more than just the new features. It is recommended to test as much of the product as possible to see as many of the UI and messages as possible.

Standard Testing

This means to install the product and follow one of the tutorials, checking the localized Brazilian Portuguese UI and messages against the same English ones, reviewing it for completeness, accuracy, correctness and terminology as defined in Purpose of Localization Testing.  Follow the test cases here: http://translatedfiles.netbeans.org/pt_BR/contest-standard-testing.html.

Advanced Testing

This type of testing is quite extensive and recommended for intermediate to advanced developers or testers. It can be useful for testing specific and individual modules. Follow the test cases here: http://translatedfiles.netbeans.org/pt_BR/contest-advanced-testing.html.

Logging Test Assignments and Results

A matrix like this one will be created on the NB Brazilian Portuguese wiki so that each participant can update the matrix without assistance. Log your assignments here so others can see what is not yet being tested. Then later, log your test results here.
